[SOLVED] Download previous versions of 32 bit kernel

Well after jumping through some hoops everything compiled. But when I start X I get unsupported ABI version of 24. Then NVIDIA use the -ignoreABI option to override this check.

Not sure which way to go.

Any ideas?

Why are you using one of the later kernels for this? You clearly have a 32 bit system, i.o.w. not the latest hardware, so what is the point of getting a 4.19.xx series of the kernel?

Just get one of the latest 4.4 or 4.9 lts kernels from kernel.org, compile it, and try it with that.

4.9 supported till Jan, 2023
4.4 supported till Feb, 2022

as you can see, still supported for years to come. 4.4 and 4.9 will work fine in slackware 14.2 and current as well (14.2 even came with the 4.4.xx version).

if the legacy 304.x driver doesn't support the new X ABI in current you can't do much apart from passing the IgnoreABI option (and positive results are not guaranteed), at least until nvidia will release a new version of the legacy driver supporting the new ABI...
but looking at your first post I'm puzzled why this thing hadn't manifested with the previous kernel version (assumed it hasn't passed a lot of time since your latest update): I'm just sorry I haven't appropriate hardware to check this incompatile-ABI thing.

The poor support for the 304 driver is why I long ago switched to using the nouveau driver on this legacy hardware box running Slackware64-current from which I am posting.

Ponce yeah I had not used that PC for quit some time. Recently got rid of all the other 32 bit machines I had then realized I had not archived all my old games on 5 1/4 floppies. Fortunately I had some old 5 1/4 floppy drives on had and was able to install on in the last 32 bit box.

As for the updates old habit updated everything to current and then the fun began. I am downloading 14.2 right now as that install is pretty messed up. I can't even get nouveau to work. Easier to just reinstall than to hunt down all the problems.
I think 14.2 has the 4.4.14 kernel in it now?

Not sure about current, but this probably means that 14.2 is the last version of Slackware that will work with the Legacy Nvidia drivers.

Well I am going to mark this one as solved, although the issue with Legacy-Nvidia drivers is only going to show up for others.

Not a super big problem for me personally as "This old box" is going to but put to pasture at some point.

I wonder how many other Slackware users have 32-bit boxes and Nvidia cards that need the Legacy-Nvidia drivers. I tried all of t the usual solutions to get them to work but IgnoreABI option just leaves me with a blank screen. The drivers will compile but that's as far as it goes.

The last Nvidia AGP card would seem to be the GeForce 7950 GT .

The last driver to support these types of cards is the Nvidia-Legacy driver 304.137 which won't work with the newre kernel releases.

I tried the nouveau driver, but that was completely unusable for me.
