kernel panic not syncing attempted to kill the idle task virtualbox

When I start instalation I get error message

kernel panic not syncing attempted to kill the idle task

and setup freezes.

I am trying to install
xubuntu-6.06-alternate-amd64.iso
on VirtualBox
Version 5.2.16 r123759 (Qt5.9.5)

I did the following steps

I created virtual machine
Name: Linux
Type: Linux
Version: Linux 2.6 / 3.x / 4.x (64-bit)

Memory size 1024 MB

I choosed the option
Create a virtual hard disk now

VDI Virtualbox Disk Image
Dynamically allocated

Size
8,00 GB

I run virtual machine and I mount
xubuntu-6.06-alternate-amd64.iso

after that setup runs

I choosed the option
Install in text mode

I could successfully install xubuntu 6.06 using OEM mode but it got stuck in text mode which is probably due to the files not being available for download anymore. xubuntu 6.06 is over 10 years old and reached EOL a long time ago.

I used:
type linux
Version Ubuntu (64)

I don't think the different version settings should matter and may be due to a corrupted download of the ISO file. Is there a reason you need to install xubuntu 6.06? Have you tried dowloading/nstalling the full ISO

Why did you pick version 6.06. Why not a current version?

I want to test it. I want to use it in virtualbox. I want to use it forever. Each new version changes user interface. I want to program some applications in the version xubuntu-6.06-alternate-amd64.iso so they keep work forever under virtualbox.

Did you verify ISO file md5sum?

Have you tried installing the desktop ISO? It installs and seems to run ok. If you have a system that can run VB you should have enough memory to use the GUI installer. While it should work as desired you may not be able to install other programs that are not on the installation disk.
