Xine Skin Retention

I've lately been using Xine. Yeah, I know it's old, but it works.

When I use the Xine "skin downloader" to install a new skin on my Debian box, over there ---->, the skin is still installed when I open Xine the next time.

When I download a new Xine skin on Slackware 14.2, the new skin is gone when I start Xine the next time. Instead, Xine is back to the default appearance.

Can someone point me in the right direction so I can learn how to retain new skins on Slackware?

Thanks.

Let's say that you want to use Antares theme. Start xine and press ctrl + d in order to open skin downloader. Download Antar and close skin downloader. Now press alt + s and open xine setup. In gui tab, which is probably already selected, find gui skin theme and select Antares. Press apply button and close window.

You can also edit your config file. Close xine. Copy ~/.xine/config for backup. Open it and find

Code:
#gui.skin:xinetic
Change it to

Code:
gui.skin:Antares
Please note that you have to remove #, as it comments a line. For best results edit config file while xine is _not_ running. Also if something goes wrong you can always delete ~/.xine directory and start from the beginning, or just use gui.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! I'll test it tomorrow and report back.

Update: I didn't get to test it today. I got busy trying a new bread recipe. I hope tomorrow.

I ended up using the "edit ~/.xine/config" method, as I could not find an "GUI Skin" item in the Setup-->GUI dialog, even after changing "User Level" to "Advanced."

Once I edited the config file, the "GUI Skin" item appeared in the config. I suspect that is related to un-remarking-out the skin line in config.

Thank you very much! You have solved for me something that has puzzled me for a long, long time.
