I am installing ubuntu 18.04, and I got
to say, this installation program is not
the most well thought out I ever have used.
Right now I am 36 minutes into installation
and I have not received any message as to
how it proceeds since at least 15 minutes
ago.
In fact, I have no impression that it is
even moving. No disc lite for some time
now.
The screen goes blank for lack of activity
once in a while, and if it hit the mouse
it tell's me a time, the time right now
08:11 August 23. I got news right now
it is way past that by many hours,
So what is that time? It cannot not even
be Greenwich standard time, that it more
like August 23 is now almost over.
Anyway, how do you know when this thing
is finally installed? Most linux distrobutions
I have used, have not left me completely
in the dark while it tried to install.
I gave it an hour more with no sign of activity.
Pulled the plug on it and rebooted. It does boot
up, but I have no internet. I think I will try
to load 16.04 next and see how the install compares.
If the "live" media successfully loads, then you could try to install. Booting the "live" media from a USB flash drive went faster and smoother than from a "DVD".
Well, I got it running and all seems to work, but
it was pretty much like pulling teeth. Anyway,
maybe it is just being new to ubuntu, and things
will work out. Thanks for the tip on running it.
This ubuntu had me totally lost for awhile,
but sticking with it, now it is impressing
me pretty well.
I think it is a keeper.
The more I use it, the more I like it,
however it has some glaring issues that
drove me nuts for awhile.
I started out many years ago when linux
was just at the beginning, tried slackware
and redhat, had the most satisfaction with
slack.
After awhile discovered SUSE, used that for
a while. Finally decided it was too much
like windows, trying to hide everything
from you in their software, now you had
to know their software, not much different
than having to know windows. So I went
back to slack.
For some reason I decided to try ubuntu
again, probably because so many are
using it, like Dell making it the linux
distro on their linux computers.
