vmware workstation pro 14.1 Slackware64-current guest, Autofit guest not working.

Virtualbox has been problematic for me every since the 5.2 branch was released. The 5.1 works better but I still have issues with certain guest os'es. I have an extra license for workstation pro so I decided to try with Slackware64-14.2 as the host. I have installed Windows XP and 7 and well as CentOS 7.5 and everything behaves normally after I install Vmware Tools.

However with Slackware64-current everything works except Autofit Guest (resizing the guest resolution when I change windows size). the Vmware settings are correct and Vmware tools are installed. Does anyone have any ideas on why this is not working?

Thanks.

I installed a Slackware64 14.2 guest and everything worked correctly, so I dug through the logs and I found this in the xorg log

Code:
[  1079.169] (II) LoadModule: "glx"
[  1079.170] (II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so
[  1079.172] (II) Module glx: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
[  1079.172] 	compiled for 1.20.0, module version = 1.0.0
[  1079.172] 	ABI class: X.Org Server Extension, version 10.0
[  1079.172] (==) Matched vmware as autoconfigured driver 0
[  1079.172] (==) Matched modesetting as autoconfigured driver 1
[  1079.172] (==) Matched fbdev as autoconfigured driver 2
[  1079.172] (==) Matched vesa as autoconfigured driver 3
[  1079.172] (==) Assigned the driver to the xf86ConfigLayout
[  1079.172] (II) LoadModule: "vmware"
[  1079.172] (II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/vmware_drv.so
[  1079.202] (II) Module vmware: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
[  1079.202] 	compiled for 1.19.6, module version = 13.2.1
[  1079.202] 	Module class: X.Org Video Driver
[  1079.202] 	ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 23.0
[ 1079.204] (EE) vmware: module ABI major version (23) doesn't match the server's version (24)
[ 1079.204] (EE) Failed to load module "vmware" (module requirement mismatch, 0)
[  1079.204] (II) LoadModule: "modesetting"
[  1079.204] (II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/modesetting_drv.so
[  1079.205] (II) Module modesetting: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
[  1079.205] 	compiled for 1.20.0, module version = 1.20.0
Best guess is that vmware hasn't' caught up to the changes in xorg 1.20. But that is just a guess until I can investigate further.
