How to disable the middle button and Emulate3Button in 17.10
Greetings, all,
I maintain stock Ubuntu 17.10 on my GF's UX305. She has injured tendons in her writsts, and proprioception issues in general. Because of this, the touchpad emulating middle button presses is wrecking havoc with her ability to use the laptop. So how do I disable the middle button and/or Emulate3Button on the touchpad? I have tried the usual, old-fashioned ways of doing this (~/.Xmodmap, and related files), but they have stopped working now that Ubunutu is using Wayland. What is the preferred way of doing this now? Please let me know, and thanks in advance.
If the issue is causing "havoc", and you reckon that Wayland is to blame, then the most immediate thing you should do is switch to a non-Wayland distro, especially given that 17.10 is a short-term version. The LTS versions Ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04 both use Xorg.
Unfortunately, 18.04 does not seem to be available for download on ubunutu.com, at least, not for desktops. And I was forced to more her to 17.10 to fix problems with the WiFi dropping out continually in 16.04 LTS, which was making that unusable. So will look at migrating her to Xorg within 17.10. Thank you.
