user account - "no signal detected"

Hello friends,

I don't really know what happened here...

I was logged-in as a normal user, logged out and the next time I tried to log-in I got a "no signal detected" on my monitors, as if the hdmi cables were not plugged in.
After that i tried to log in as root and it all worked as expected, so i tried to log-in back as the normal user and I get the same "no signal" message.

I assume it's some kde problem, but yet again while i was logged in the first time, i was only using vim and playing some music and as far as i remembered i didn't mess up with any config files.

I've tried to google it and got some info about re-setting the xorg.conf file but that didn't really worked out.

Can anyone point me on right direction?

Thanks in advance,

Ulrich.

Unlikely to be xorg.conf, as that file should only be writable by root.
It could be a corruption in ~/.kde/share/config/krandrrc. You could try moving that file away and restarting.
Failing that, you could try creating a new user and see if it works from the new account.

Hey allend (and all)

I figured out the problem, here's the solution if you come across the same situation;

Log in as root, su to the user that is not working, head to $HOME, ls-a, and delete the .kde file;

After that you can log on as the user and it all work out well, although you will have to re-configure some stuff like wi-fi password, key locker, keyboard shortcuts, etc.

Ulrich.

Glad you got it working again. I was not keen on suggesting the nuke ~/.kde option because of the fallout you describe.

Hmm... I'd suspect that /home/regularuser/.kde or a file in it was owned by root. This can result on weird things.

@All: if you need to do something as root, type:
Code:
su -
not
Code:
su
This will avoid to change owner of files in /home/regularuser inadvertently, which *could* have adverse consequences.

Thank you Didier Spaier and allend;

You both seem very knowledgeable of the slackware architecture, if I may, i would like to direct your attention to another thread of mine about a subject I can't figure out, for the life of me.

Thank you in advance,

U.
