Just saw an update by the OP to a 3 year old thread that was most pertinent. They couldnít update the OP, so just posted an update.
I didnít feel strongly one way or the other when I started this thread...am now leaning toward no changes needed. JSYK

This is what typically happens.

I've thought about it, and I propose that necroposts by new users automatically go into moderation, and do not appear until they've been manually moderator-approved. In the same way that posts to the Linux - News forum go into moderation.

Necroposts from established users should remain unrestricted.

Not sure how hard it would be to implement, but I actually do like that idea...

A couple of things.

Someone doesn't look at how old the thread is but after posting to that thread believes Jeremy/LinuxQuestions should do something about it rather than thinking, "Maybe I should look at the age of the topics I post to".

I was going to suggest a dialog popping up saying something like "This thread has been inactive for [unit time]. Are you sure you wish to continue?"

Okay, this notification would only be displayed for the first person replying to the old thread? So back to the first point.

Perhaps, instead of closing old threads, they could be tagged as [OLD THREAD], similar to [Solved]. Or color code the subject area, if thats even possible.
