No problems here with the xorg Updates for Wed Dec 14 21:19:34 UTC 2022

All --

I exited KDE and installed today's xorg updates in runlevel 3.

Then rebuilt NVidia and my VMWare Tools and rebooted.

Everything is running well on my Slackware65 15.0 + MultiLib Laptop.

Thanks to Pat and the Team !

When I build anything above 1.17.4 my VESA doesn't work on Nvidia or Intel HD 630 (i have both jic and neither worked!)

1.18.4 gives only a black screen, exits back to terminal ...

BUT 1.20.4 and xorg-server-21.1.4 BOTH give only black screens (from black to deep black) and FORCES ME TO REBOOT.

For 21.1.4 only (which i think is for touch android only are they now refusing to make Intel HD base servers?): I COMPILED / installed Nvidia driver (non-vesa which works in 17.4). Still same black screen and refusal to yeild back terminal.

I note both VESA, systemd, os/linux/lnx_init.c (console return code) have been hacked heavily since 1.18.4 onward - including dbus and systemd hacks in lnx_init.c and deletion of MTRR code "i think" (note neither should be required - especially systemd).

(if the hackers: redhat and microsoft, weren't using WAY more than their share of government money - i might feel different. but that's not the case.)

note: GITHUB is run by microsoft - it's highly likely they've "hosted" xorg-server-21 for the purpose of steering linux off course - by becoming the only people who are really allowed to "edit" Xorg. just a warning not a fact.

Please, don't derail this thread with all this conspiracy nonsense.

github is just a mirror.

Xnest seems to be broken. Xephyr is fine. Test:

Code:
Xnest :3 -ac -listen tcp -geometry 1400x1000 &
xterm -display :3
Move another window over Xnest and its client. Move it away. The Xnest window should redraw. It stays black/blanked out.

jayjwa --

I am afraid I didn't see your post until this morning after I has already upgraded my xorg-server packages with last night's updates.

Your test case above worked for me this morning ...

Maybe it's fixed for you too ?

Xnest issue is still there after upgrading to current right now and rebooting too. Let's not worry about it as it seems only I have this issue and I usually use Xephyr anyway. I am trying to make a display for old xclients and thought it might work better but this isn't the case.
