The Plan 9 Foundation was founded.

Good news for those who like good tech: There is a Plan 9 Foundation now, aiming at bringing some more structure into the Plan 9 world.

The Jehanne (and ex-Harvey) developer has already stated he won’t be in, citing past issues when working with Google employees at Harvey. Good start, I guess.

I also like people exploring new avenues, but must admit plan9 lost me many years ago. Might be hard to win people back.

I would guess that this is the point.

Lots of good things are happening in Plan 9 world right now.

I tried it once too, but couldn't figure it out, but I just took a look at the link & see that they have one for the Raspberry Pi, so I may give it another go.

probably like learning a offshoot of latin.

I see some commands I recognize. like dd. I guess du serves as df -h. Edit: Nope. Just tested.

Languages <sheesh>

Plan 9 shares a lot - including the shell - with V9 UNIX and V10 UNIX. If you used V7 UNIX, you won’t know much.

Good to see plan9 coming back. It would be nice to see standard C/C++ implemented though It would help porting apps.

Plan 9 supports standard Plan 9 C. But yes, I know what you mean. They have a good excuse though: Everyone who was involved in creating C ended up in the Plan 9 team later.

The Plan 9 Foundation is now the official owner of the Plan 9 operating system. Nokia (heh, remember Nokia?) has given it away.
