has there been an update between where the problem did not exist and where you seen the problem again?
maybe the driver became re installed?
otherwise, try to turn off 3d effects, if this does not help, sorry, no idea.
this is for sure not a general openSUSE Leap problem, it must be something special in the combination between leaop 42.3 and your hardware or leap/config/hardware or so

Thumbs down SUSE Leap 42.3 menus broken Part 2 - Kubuntu

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGYYiQuNqIA
The problem doesn't occur in Kubuntu (running live CD). The menus not only don't break but they are much more responsive.
This is definitely a SUSE issue with some hardware setups, but not only mine:

Yes drm-kmp-default was uninstalled. I have now tried re-installing again and still no difference; no better no worse.
I didn't install Leap 42.2 as there were screen flicker problems. I been using SUSE since I purchased the professional version in the late 1990s; I guess I will be using Kubuntu until this is resolved...

it is definitely possible that the current kubuntu comes with a much newer KDE version than Leap, which comes with some older KDE
I would not be surprised if tumbleweed, which also has a much newer KDE version, would also work on you PC

if you want, you can try it

Thumbs up Working now!

After a bit of a struggle, I have got my system back up and running with Tumbleweed; with only /tmp on tmpfs. I have only once seen any corruption; when hovering over System Load Viewer (which for some reason no longer launches KSysGuard). The UI appeared to unresponsive for a while but I have not seen anything odd since. I was also having problems with Leap 42.3 when switching between users by using the Crt-Alt-Fn key combination, which would cause the computer to lock up. Could only be cleared by hard reset / power down. I do not seem to have any similar issues with Tumbleweed. Let's hope the problem stays fixed! Thanks to all those who provided guidance.

Widget issue solved

I had an issue in that when widgets attempted to launch apps the taskbar froze for 20 minutes and then displayed an error message "KDInit ould not launch '/usr/bin/[app]'. This was not happening for other users, so I created a new user for myself and transferred data over. Fine now. Some strange incompatibility between KDEInit and whatever was in my home directory. The 20 minute timeout for an error was unusual too. Strange bugs lurking in the code somewhere.

Hey guys, some advice please.

I closed this thread because my problems were resolved with the removal of old software but I see others are also having problems which have yet to be resolved.

Should I reopen this thread?

Can anybody reopen this thread or does it have to be the originator?

Regards

Chris

I think it is ok to leave this solved since it includes some hints and help, and if those do not help, an other thread can be opended
