Thinkpad x220 idea

Does anyone have experience with this laptop-tablet?

I was planning on getting one of these in the not to distant future as a replacement for my aging Android tablet. My plan was to install linux on it either debian 9.6 buster or ubuntu 18.04.

With this being a tablet, i know the wifi can be an issue but I think now ubuntu has it in the additional drivers. But does the touchscreen work in ubuntu?

Touchscreen support is in the kernel, so the touchscreen should work with any distro.

I can't speak to this particular machine, but I do know that, for many members of my LUG, Lenovo is their first choice for laptops.

i was recently shopping for a used thinkpad, and i'm pretty sure the x220 is a laptop.
a pretty old one at that.
i don't know if it has touchscreen support at all.

are you sure you got that model right?

to more generally answer your question (i think it's a good one) - you might want to try pureOS, esp. the version currently developed for the purism 5 (gnu/linux smartphone).
i'm sure there's more choice.
maybe UBPorts.

Thinkpad x220 is not Ubuntu-certified, according to this list: https://certification.ubuntu.com/desktop/

Purchase at your own risk.

that is because it looks like they didn't even do the testing until the later models came out. They are 500 series.

He is just trying to be smart about it and get a lesser expensive workable laptop, and if Ubunutu does not work on it then keep the laptop and shit can Ubuntututu, then move on to a different Linux Distro.

I own two thinkpads T500 [mint18.3] and t520 [debian 9.6 mate] both have no issues running either OS and they are never listed. That site seems dated today.

I just wanted something smaller than the thinkpads I have not but really 12" compared to 15" not much difference in size.
