tty[2-6] gettys became "on demand" too long ago to remember, yet another systemd feature. The speed of response when a "demand" is made varies according to things I've never determined. I didn't like the long waits that on multiple installations were occurring, so on most I have defeated systemd's "on demand" (following renaming /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/getty@tty1.service to .getty@tty1.service01) by running a script containing (for openSUSE - some distros need the links to be to /lib* instead of /usr/lib*) the following:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
 cd /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants
 cp -a ../../../../usr/lib/systemd/system/getty@.service ../../../../usr/lib/systemd/system/getty@tty1.service
 sed -i 's/TTYVTDisallocate=yes/TTYVTDisallocate=no/' ../../../../usr/lib/systemd/system/getty@tty1.service
 ln -sf ../../../../usr/lib/systemd/system/getty@tty1.service ./getty@tty1.service
 systemctl start getty@tty1.service
 ln -sf ../../../../usr/lib/systemd/system/getty@.service ./getty@tty2.service
 systemctl start getty@tty2.service
 ln -sf ../../../../usr/lib/systemd/system/getty@.service ./getty@tty3.service
 systemctl start getty@tty3.service
 ln -sf ../../../../usr/lib/systemd/system/getty@.service ./getty@tty4.service
 systemctl start getty@tty4.service
 ln -sf ../../../../usr/lib/systemd/system/getty@.service ./getty@tty5.service
 systemctl start getty@tty5.service
 ln -sf ../../../../usr/lib/systemd/system/getty@.service ./getty@tty6.service
 systemctl start getty@tty6.service
There may be a better way, but this WFM since April 2015.

Interesting, thanks for the information on how you handle this. My machine is meanwhile not anymore so sluggish that I'd have to use this but I will keep it in mind. One never knows what the future will bring .

Totally OT: I see in your signature that you are multibooting. Is that as in multiuser / multiseat? I tried that years ago but it was only for a short time: https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...tiseat-870463/.
