I am not done trying and I appreciate your advice.

Thank you kind Guru!
Directory is /etc/xdg/autostart (note the first / in the path)

I am so sorry for taking so long to reply. I have tried your suggestion in every way that I could think of which has produced nothing. Any idea of what I am doing wrong? Yes I included the first "/" (example /etc/xdg/autostart ). Please help me to autostart my xscreensaver. This is most frustrating.

Hi.

It's not clear what you've been trying.

Are you using a terminal (MATE-terminal, xterm) with bash running in it? What program are you using to search?

Tell us a bit more about which tools you're using to fix your desktop.

I don't like to just guess, but if you have a terminal emulator with bash running in it (MATE-terminal, xterm, etc), then try the following command and report back with the results:
Code:
ls /etc/xdg/autostart/

This is good news! The directory is available, and it's right where we expect it.

Now, copy the file you pasted the text from this thread (as directed in this post [xscreensaver.desktop]) into the /etc/xdg/autostart/ directory.
