I got some Lenovo ThinkCenter win7 machines the autoplay failed to function, not even the autoplay pop up displayed when insert disc, I read on the internet that windows update disabled that feature but I couldn't find detail about that. I tried all registry hacks I can find on the internet regarding this problem but none seems to have any effect on it, I also checked the Shell Hardware Detection service is up and running, as well as Group Policy not disabled the autoplay, anything else I am missing ? the strange thing is that, USB DVD autoplay always work, only the internal drive not working, and the drive is the notebook type slim drive without the motorized loading and eject mechanism, could this be the cause ?
Of course the first thing to check is the control panel autoplay settings and it is set to play DVD and CD with different players, and the settings saved. I got the prompt every time power up to ask for what to do when insert disc, so the default settings does not take effect, and after I play the disc the first time, I re-insert the disc but nothing happened, even weird is the disc cache does not auto clear, so when I replace the DVD with a CD audio disc and manual play (right click autoplay) the system still show the DVD label and ask for what movie player to use. The above problem does not exist on USB drive, it autoplay DVD and CD normally everytime without ask, so I think this has something to do with the slim drive. I tried all hacks I can find on the internet to fix this problem, including registry hacks and group policy but none has any effect to the problem, I got this problem on all M710/s model with slim drive, the next thing to do is to reinstall the whole thing, coz Lenovo will most likely ask me to do so !
Does the inserted disk have an autoplay file on it? (Memory says autoplay.inf, but that might not be right)
No autoplay without a file on the disk, AFAIK.
