Forgotten Password

Hi,
I have installed Zorin 12 but as I haven't used my laptop for a while I have forgotten my password to log in. Any help will be welcome.

The usual way to deal with this kind of thing is to use a rescue disc. Most installation disc images can act as rescue discs too, or you can use a specialised disc like SystemRescue. Boot from it and mount your hard drive on /mnt, and you will have root access to your system.

There are two possible ways to proceed then. You can chroot (switch to your hard drive's root partition) and set a new password for your user with the passwd command. Or you can do the same thing at a lower level by carefully editing the hash of the lost password out of /mnt/etc/shadow so that you can then log in without a password when rebooting.

In many distros, there is a third option which is the simplest of all: log in as root and then set a new password. However I gather that Zorin is an Ubuntu derivative so it probably doesn't allow root logins.

you really need to learn to do this before creating a thread.
there's literally thousands of posts about this very same problem.
PS: zorin is based on ubuntu i think.
