Unhappy Epson Stylus nx420 all-in-one. Printer works. Scanner is not detected

I've been working on this all day. I have been to several forums and tried many things without any progress. The one post that most mirrors my issue is here:

https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...an-4175521910/

I have went through all the steps and the scanner still is not recognized

I am using linux mint 19 Tara. The printer works fine. I have tried several scanner packages and have the newest drivers from Epson:

epson-inkjet-printer-nx420_1.0.0-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb
iscan-bundle-1.0.4.x64.deb

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to LQ

Referencing an old unsolved thread that "most mirrors" your problem isn't very enlightening.

What steps did you follow? The ones in the old thread that (apparently) didn't work there either?

Which scanner packages have you tried? What happened besides they didn't work?

We need specific information about your issue to be able to help.

I have used iscan from Epson and receive the command "Could not send command to scanner. Check the scanner's status".

I have used simple scan app and there are no options under "preference" to select a scanner.

I have used xsanes scanner app and there are not scanners recognized

I have ensured that my account is in the "Scanner" group.

I have followed tutorials to edit the /etc/sane.d/dll.conf and /etc/sand.d/epson.conf files to try different toubleshooting guides without success.

The scanner works perfectly with my Windows 10 laptop. The printer driver from epson for linux works fine on printing jobs. When looking that the properties from the printers app, there is no mention of scanners. I can pull up the device in a web browser.

I have had trouble looking for solutions. Everything I'm seeing is for situations were the device cannot be reached, or there are driver issues. The drivers seem to be working fine, but the device is just not being registered as having more than one function. I don't know what all I can say about the problem.
