(if you're gonna put Linux on it ) but if updating the phone then it wipes the "hacks." The mods will probably close this soon do to legalities then find a pawn form e.g: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/1616...y-ready-to-pop
yes, you can always restore it back to apples unjailbroken software. That is, as long as neither you nor the jailbreak break it to the point where it cant boot and connect to itunes. Of course, upgrading will remove the jailbreak.
Personally, and I highly recommend this to you as well, I am waiting for the dust to settle with this new jailbreak. Seems like things were rushed, and not everyone in the community are on the same page.
*edit*
keep in mind though, that this new jailbreak is only good for ios7-ios7.0.4. Apples next release may or may not be compatible with it. And apple only allows you to install their most current software once its released. I think last year it took them a couple days to a week after the jailbreak was released before they came out with a new version, and then maybe a day after that, evasi0n came out with a new jailbreak for that version. But there are no guarantees that they can, as apple could potentially plug the hole quickly. I am waiting a day or two, letting the dust settle and hoping apple doesnt release a new version with the holes plugged before I upgrade. Wanted to make sure you make an informed decision.

Or if they still support the device, my iPhone 1 is useless if I "update" it (most apps and games stop working ) a$ they try to force the newer HW only! Luckily I was able to roll back and keep Linux and the earlier app versions that work on it.

What if I decide that I don't want the jailbreak anymore?
If you someday decide that you want to undo your jailbreak, you can plug your device into your computer, make a full backup with iTunes, click "Restore" in iTunes to wipe the device, and load your backup when prompted. All your App Store apps and the information in them will be preserved as usual.
