Debian 10 not connecting to wifi with Broadcom Ethernet card

Hi,

I'm a newbie who's been trying out different flavours of Linux. I enjoyed most of them till I installed Debian-- then everything came to a screeching halt.

From the research I was able to do on my Android phone, it looks like Debian neglected to install a driver or 2 for my Ethernet card.

This is as much info as I can provide given my limited resources and my foggy short-term memory:

Broadcom Limited NetXtreme BCM5755M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express

Also:

Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection [8086:4222]

I'm using a Dell Latitude D830, 32-bit, i86.

Please be gentle with me, as I have a headache from all the hoops I've had to jump through just to figure all this mess out.

Any solid suggestions would be gratefully welcome.

As far as I can tell the pci card should be supported while normally the wifi broadcom isn't.

So the best place to start might be a command line program.

Normally you'd use the command lspci to see if the nic card is on the pci bus.

Be sure to peek at the ethernet connection area for the blinky lights when you connect to cable. In some cases your cable may not fully auto negotiate for type of cable. Full power down then try again with cable connected.

I'm not using cable. The wifi router is Netgear.

What is the exact chipset (if it's different from the model number) in that Broadcom device? The command lspci issued in a terminal should provide that information.
