Hello

I am a long time member, but I have never been active on this forum. I have been using Ubuntu Linux since 2008, and I love it. I can't imagine going back to Windows, but sometimes...

My biggest gripe is that when I reach out for help on Launchpad, or google other help topics, I get frustrated because many of the remedies are written for people who have extensive programming knowledge. I find that many of the people who do offer help with issues get a little impatient when I don't know what this or that means. I have no clue about pulling up terminals and putting in commands, and unless someone walks me through it step by step, I won't get it. Is there a section of this forum for people who need training wheels?

Greetings, wlbates, and welcome to LQ!

I too have been on GNU/Linux since 2008. Started with Ubuntu 7.10 and am on Debian 10 now.

I know of no such section.

Welcome to LQ.

Two good places to look for howtos are Going Linux and Lifewire, which has an excellent Linux section.

For the command line, you might check out Garrells's Bash Guide for Beginners. It hasn't been updated in some time, but bash hasn't changed much either. I still have a print out of it on my bookshelf.

Happy Saturday and thank you for links and the warm welcomes.

I would love to try one of the other Linux programs, but I guess I am a little chicken. When I first started with Linux, the technician who introduced me to it was right around the corner whenever I needed help. Through the years, I was able to navigate and figure some things out, except when it came to programming and technical stuff. I don't have anyone around me now to help when I need immediate help. So for now, I guess I will stick with Ubuntu.
