[SOLVED] best distro for old laptop

I didn't mean to offend you. I was just trying to make a point. I haven't given up on FreeBSD but I am trying to install arch on another laptop. I want a challenge but I don't think I'm ready for Gentoo. Thanks

Did your "Debian" install to a old-wheezy GUI or a CLI that you built up the way you want? A netinst will let you choose "defaults" to GUIs along the way or you can go CLI then make some fun* choices... try Ratpoison.

I installed Debian Jessie on my new laptop. But the reason I didn't want to install debian is because I have a new notebook that I installed kubuntu on just because I wanted something very reliable as a fallback. If I can't get wireless working in freeBSD then I'll have to move on to something else and I'll look at the suggestions again. Thanks

I normally keep a 2nd device around to bridge to wifi over. A usb dongle is $30-ish, an asus rt-n12 is $40-ish and has wifi and 5 ethernet ports. But most times it's a linux laptop that bridges wifi for a bsd laptop. But I have a 2nd one that I broke the screen on, otherwise still a good laptop.

I can try it again I but tried 3 installs using two different dvds and everytime it would hang on packages and I couldn't get any further' I did some research and it seems not totally uncommon. if you know a work around I'd appreciate it.
