I would prefer EFL based music player, but not sure e devs maintain projects like Enjoy or Mpris currently. Staying on EFL base means the most lightweight app. Lighter than GTK.

Thumbs up cmus

I will give cmus a try, Pragha is a basic app without any of the bells & whistles which keeps it on the lightweight side.

Cmus is a CLI music player?

Hmm, it will be lightweight by all means, but not sure if all people like terminal apps.
I like

Pragha Music Player Get The Latest Version Add PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/pragha
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pragha

I have compared several music players this seems to be light + faster!

Have you compared to cmus? I bet it's lighter.... even tho it has the bells & whistles...

Code:
sudo apt install cmus
If you want latest version, since ubuntu 18 repos getting kinda old now, add ppa first...

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jmuc/cmus

I've tried Pragha Music player per your recommendation but it's no match for Deadbeef. Deadbeef is lighter and more "pro".
Give it a try!

Best regards,
Ciprian
