This means you're trying to run --enable-ffmpeg as a command, but it needs to be part of the ./configure command. So you should change the ./configure portion of the script for the following (note the trailing backspace after --build=$ARCH-slackware-linux:

Code:
CFLAGS="$SLKCFLAGS" \
CXXFLAGS="$SLKCFLAGS" \
./configure \
  --prefix=/usr \
  --libdir=/usr/lib${LIBDIRSUFFIX} \
  --sysconfdir=/etc/xfce \
  --docdir=/usr/doc/$PRGNAM-$VERSION \
  --enable-debug=no \
  --enable-tex \
  --disable-update-mime-database \
  --build=$ARCH-slackware-linux \
  --enable-ffmpeg
EDIT: This does require having ffmpegthumbnailer installed, in addition to ffmpeg itself.

I managed to get thunar-thumbnailer compiled and installed, and according to the instructions for it, I am supposed to execute the following command:

/usr/libexec/thunar-vfs-update-thumbnailers-cache-1

which I did (as user, and root) and got the following result both times:
Code:
bash-4.3# /usr/libexec/thunar-vfs-update-thumbnailers-cache-1
bash: /usr/libexec/thunar-vfs-update-thumbnailers-cache-1: No such file or directory

I think this is likely an old and outdated piece of software. It seems the current version was released back in 2008. Based on looking through packages.slackware.com, /usr/libexec/thunar-vfs-update-thumbnailers-cache-1 used to be a part of the xfce package, but it last existed in Slackware in 13.37. It might be time to retire this package on SBo and might be worth hitting up the maintainer (rworkman, who happens to provide updated xfce packages for -current -- so if it is able to be fixed, he'd be the guy to know).

Are there any alternatives that would perform the same function, and if so, what are they?

if you have ffmpeg and ffmpegthumbnailer already installed you can try rebuilding tumbler from the sources in the Slackware tree (/source/xfce/tumbler/), it should build the plugins for making thumbnails using ffmpeg.

I'm sorry, but this is one of those times were I was just slow to respond (but, better late then never, I suppose). My question, at any rate, is this: How do I go about rebuilding that "tumbler" file (yes, it's been a while since I've done it)?
