nobody will solve my printing issue

Symptoms:
-cups is setup, print test page works fine, printer is usb
-no application recognizes the printer, the drop down menu either lists only PDF printing or PDF printing and a 'generic printer'. the ' generic printer' does nothing.
-when I press ctrl+P it takes 5 minutes for the printing dialog to appear and the program locks up
-this error is in /var/log/cups/error_log:
Code:
CreateDevice failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited:Launch helper exited with unknown return code 1
It worked last time I tried to print, and I changed nothing.

Yup, not going to be solved.

Have you tried: sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart

No, it probably won't be...mainly because you provide NO DETAILS. Version/distro of Linux? Brand/model of printer? What the 'application' is? Desktop environment you're using? Are you sharing the printer?? Anything you've done/tried so far??

You asked earlier about setting up CUPS:
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ie-4175677363/

...but never followed up.

would be nice to to see what went wrong with that launch helper.

Something obviously changed, otherwise it is just nonsense.

and obviously would be nice to see how did you configure your cups service.
Just in case you change your mind and want to solve it.
