mysql does not stop

I noticed that slackware64-current was failing to shutdown when I asked it to. It spit out something along the lines of mysqld not running.

On the command line, I get the following.

root@darkstar:/etc/rc.d# ./rc.mysqld stop

WARNING: Gave up waiting for mysqld to exit!

There's a problem somewhere for a clever sleuth to fix.

TIA.

John.
