I am using Slackware64-current with XFCE 4.14 from Robby Workman.
After one of the last updates, I think the one that updated Adwaita icons, some icons from Thunar and Network Manager are missing. Please check the following images:
Distribution: Slackware64-current with "True Multilib" and KDE4Town.

You can go to Settings>Appearance>Icons and pick the ones you prefer.
Although the tip did not fix the issue, it helped me to find the problem.
I am using the Paper icon theme, for some reason, the missing icons only happen with this icon theme.
