Regarding USB Wi-Fi Dongle

Dear Everyone,

The following question is regarding the purchase of USB Wi-Fi Dongle for our project. Since, There are more features to be considered when you purchase the dongle causes me to post this question in this forum.

1. I would like to purchase the dongle which has following features,
Support for softMAC
Support for b/g/n
Support for acting as an AP/STA/ad-hoc/monitor modes

2. How do I distinguish whether the device/dongle can support softMAC (or) fullMAC?

I'm looking forward for your replies.

I have it on good authority that all currently available wireless network interface controllers (WNIC)
use softMAC firmware on their chips. Even several years ago fullMAC controllers were hard to find.

It may be possible to find a cheaper adapter with the same chipset.

@STDOUBT : The first link you suggested won't work in "N" mode. And I will look at the carl9170.

@hilyard: I think this won't support as AP.

What is the criteria in hardware which enables the softMAC feature?

That device appears to have a very, very tiny internal antenna!
Since you have told us almost nothing about your application (range requirements, operating environment, etc.) there is very little on which to comment. I can say only that I would not expect that tiny dongle to pick up any access point in a separate house or structure.
