looking through the jrnl-out.txt
line 1393
"Jan 04 22:26:56 linux-ovzn kapplymousetheme[1670]: This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "xcb"
"
Is that relevant at all ?

I have to think it is very possibly relevant, but that would most likely be a problem with SDDM I have no idea other than web searches how to troubleshoot. Is there a file named /var/log/sddm.log?

Another strong possibility from your logs is logind, another subject I don't know how to deal with. This one could be a symptom rather than a cause.

https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...nd-4175584879/ and https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...rk-4175649743/ seem could be qt/xcb search starting points.

Given the lack of help from others here, I suggest you open a thread either on https://forums.opensuse.org/forumdis...all-Boot-Login, or on https://forum.kde.org/ and point to this thread.

Well,
I have not solved my problem, per se, but I did come up with a solution !

I have downloaded Suse Leap 15.2 !
OK, it is still in development, but I copied the .iso image and installed it, and Voila !
It installed fine, I got my graphic interface and I am now in the process of adjusting the settings to my personal preferences.

( but it still leaves the question: why did Leap 15.1 not work for me ?
I downloaded the image 4 times, twice directly and twice as a torrent file, and burned 4 different DVD's, yet I still had a corrupt system. Is it possible that the source files were corrupt ? )

Again, thanks to all who helped me. I really appreciate it.
( that's also a Dankeschoen to Sauerland and a Domo-Arigato to Mrmazda !)

This is a great maybe:
Maybe not all packages are switched from Leap 42.3 to Leap 15.1?
Maybe the kernel in Leap 15.1 (an modified kernel 4.19 and named 4.12 because of SUSE) is to old?

Nobody can say it now.....
