I just installed this and installed i3 - logged out, no way to switch desktops. it has the handycapped, wifi, sound and battery, and that is it. nothing, I seen nothing on the login name either like that little circle.
Code:
ls /usr/share/xsessions
i3.desktop ubuntu-communitheme-snap.desktop
i3-with-shmlog.desktop ubuntu.desktop
I have not tried Ubuntutut in years, is this what they've turned into .. use the desktop that comes with it or use the desktop that comes with it, like Windows10? ...
I have Ubuntu MATE v. 18.04 LTS running on one machine and, when I installed Fluxbox, I was able to select it from the GDM.
If I remember correctly (I'm watching an episode of Republic of Doyle on it right now and I want to see the end), you have to enter your user name for the "select GUI interface" icon to appear.
Distribution: Ubuntu based stuff for the most part

I have not used i3, but when I installed KDE on Ubuntu it works fine. I had to allow a different login manager to take over from the default. sddm gets pulled in by KDE and it will give you the option to change the desktop environment you use.
