Trying to passthrough a video card through virt-manager


I am attempting to follow this guide for how to passthrough a video card to a virtual machine to avoid the need for dual boots. I contacted the author over twitter.

DMESG output is attached. I rebuilt the kernel just to be sure everything was built in.

Following your guide, what is the result of

Most of your errors seem to be related to DMAR. Also, what is your exact intel chip model?

Finally, what did you put in your “options”

options vfio-pci ids=10de:1b80,10de:10f0
The numbers in the example given are specific to the hardware to passthrough. They probably don’t apply to your hardware. I’d recommend reading the Arch guide https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php...rough_via_OVMF as background, even though you’re using Ubuntu.

Thank you for your reply. Since posting this thread, I have moved over to CentOS and retried the experiment. I've gotten further in CentOS but have hit a different roadblock.

Bump. Okay. So I've managed to successfully do this, albeit with some different hardware in a different box.

ASRock 970 Extreme 3
32 gigs of ram
AMD FX-8320
Radeon 5750 (for guest)
Nvidia Geforce 210 (for host)

I got the bloody thing to passthrough the radeon card on a windows 10 install. Got its drivers installed and everything. The device shows up in device manager. The problem I am now running into, is when attempting to run any sort of program that needs the video card... league of legends, second life... all those programs fail to detect it, stating I don't have the necessary video capabilities to run the programs. Am I missing something simple? Working theory is to try and redo with a newer gpu, but it shouldn't really matter if the graphics card in there is 8 years old. It can still do the bare minimum and should be detected. I have a GTX 970 I can retry with, but I want to avoid that.
