I'm no gamer. I clicked 'play' on the demo linked and found it boring. From the small amount I read, I gather it's a fancy way of enhancing Ray tracing, which may have something to do with cobbling up shadow effects? No doubt I'll be corrected if I'm wrong. It's often the handiest way to get a definition

My favourite game of all time was Space Quest. You were to "boldly go where no one had swept the floor," i.e. you were a janitor. Fancy Graphics, but not high speed. It was an RPG. You were some lazy sneak crawling his way up through the ranks in a 'Star Trek' like environment. There was an invisible narrow path through the maze, and if you strayed off course, you were killed off in some hilarious way. It's the only game(s) I ever saw where my kids would split themselves laughing as they were killed off, and (after they'd beaten it), do stupid things to get killed off in another way. It's free for download now, as abandonware. It ran in windows 95/98 anyhow, so I presume wine will do it. It will run on a '486 without issue. There's a pile of patches offered also for problems on modern pcs, and a weird code thing to get past initially.

1. Yess!!!

2. It's available for sale on stores like GOG and Steam. The GOG release has the original version of Space Quest 1 and the Steam release has the VGA remake. The GOG release is superior in every other way (it has all the original documentation, which was a huge part of the games of those days), so pick that if you don't need the VGA remake. I, of course, bought both. I play them in ScummVM.

3. Check out a homage game called "Snail Trek", which is one of my favorites from last year (it's on Steam).

4. If you can't picture what a real-time pathtraced Space Quest might look like, someone already has:

I rather assumed, perhaps naively, that people would want to do their own research.
But for those of you that don't, here are 2 excellent talks on the subject:

All seems a bit pointless, unless you want to play games on your computer.
What's the point in striving for realism when the whole point is that its not real.

If I set the poll correctly then it closes tonight at midnight. That is in about 9 and 1/2 hours from now.
You still have time to cast your vote.
