SNAP my ssss this installed gimp and gimp no want to work right 2.10 gimp.

so I got this distro called peppermint, I went to install gimp. it gave me a option, snap gimp 2.10 or apt install 2.8 so I picked 2.10 and it does not open images that are not located in my home. I get permissions denied.

my permissions are the same for both directories.

home permissons.
Code:
userx@PepperMint ~ $ ls -la /home/userx
total 2896
drwxr-xr-x 32 userx userx 4096 Dec 7 10:46 .
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Dec 6 17:00 ..
my storage drive mount point
Code:
userx@PepperMint ~ $ ls -la /media/data1
total 572
drwxr-xr-x 20 userx userx 4096 Dec 7 11:13 .
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Dec 6 17:15 ..
an image on the home front.
Code:
userx@PepperMint ~ $ ls -la Neopolis-horizon.jpg
-rw-r--r-- 1 userx userx 20993 Dec 6 21:22 Neopolis-horizon.jpg
an image on the storage side
Code:
userx@PepperMint ~ $ ls -la /media/data1/Neopolis-horizon.jpg
-rw-r--r-- 1 userx userx 20993 Dec 7 11:13 /media/data1/Neopolis-horizon.jpg

You show us the permission on the file, what are the permissions on the directory? If you don't have directory permissions as the users you are not going to be able to open the file.
