Deleting Google Drive from my Machine and Google

All,

I found the HOWTO at:

askubuntu.com/questions/497992/how-to-remove-google-drive-from-ubuntu

and ran the 2 commands:

Quote:
apt-get remove grive-tools
apt-add-repository --remove ppa:thefanclub/grive-tools
But that does not remove GDrive from my actual Google account and Google has frozen my account to ""SELL" me more storage, which will never happen since synching to GDrive never worked; which is the only reason to ever use a cloud-based storage in the first place, to sync with backup, so you never ever lose any files or changes to files.

So how do I actually, at the Google level cancel/delete my GDrive from my account?

Cheers!

I'd think you'd have to contact Google to do that.

There are several links here.

Googles Solution

All,

According to Google, the only way to delete GDrive is to delete the entire account. I cannot do that ast my account is over 10 years old and that would delete all saved emails, which I cannot do!

I just need to delete their #@$%^$#% crap that I installed as a trial, which never worked, so now have to delete it all (GDrive that is)!.

Cheers!

scasey,

The links ask you to go through "Google One", which I do not have and never will. They invited me, I looked it up and read all the "horror" stories, so never fell for that pile of BS!

If you have an active Google Drive account, you will have to log into it to cancel it, I'm sure.
If you never created a login, then you probably don't have a Google Drive, which may be why it never worked.

Just went to https://one.google.com/storage while logged in with my gmail account (which I use for the sharable calendar, primarily) and it reported I was using -0- storage of the free 15GB that account was entitled to.

Do you have a gmail account?

If you never signed up for Google One, then you're not paying for additional storage...is that correct?

In any event, the answer to "So how do I actually, at the Google level cancel/delete my GDrive from my account?" is to do that on Google. You'll need to work through their support system and you'll definitely need to sign on at some point. One can interact with Google without having a Google One account.

Since Google own the data, you play by their rules. Why the need to delete the data anyhow? Google already own it, anyone who had accvess already downloaded it.
Or, you could sue Google for not saving the email you paid them to provide you with? You did pay them, and sign up to a contract, right?

Then go to the link I posted while logged in and delete any content you’ve put there. You’ll still have a GDrive, but it will be empty. (Looks like everyone with a Gmail account has a GDrive).

You could download all your email, then delete the account, but that seems overkill.

All,

Finally connected with Google Support Chat and was able to get storage under the limit, so email is working again, but still need to find out how to delete GDrive from the account.

If you know please inform!

Cheers!

Life without a google account is possible.

Bite the bullet and do not use gmail anymore.
If you use an email client you probably have all your emails on your computer anyhow, or at least you have the tools to do so.

Yes, you will have to tell all your contacts that you have a new email address.
Yes, you will need to run two accounts side by side for a while because people are slow to react.
But in the end it's the only solution.
Life without a google account is possible. Smartphone and everything.
I did that 10 years ago so I should know.

Yes your old account was made 10 years ago . Google was giving out free q-suite I my self took advantage of that with my old domain.

But this came back to bite me in back side years later when google changed stuff. Now they wanted big bucks to open extra email on my site.
I since moved company domain to yahoo for that reason.
I have no clue why they would freeze a folder on the server that is in your account.

Do you define the gdrive as unaccessible ?
The Free 10 gigs that come with all accounts is also part of the automated system.
I believe you may need to reassess issue. there is a learning curve going on.

As for having your gdrive synced on your hard drive that tool has been around a long time.
