Thumbs up NuTyX 11.6 available


NuTyX 11.6 available with cards 2.4.122

I'm very pleased to announce the new NuTyX 11.6 release.

The 64-bit version contains more than 1000 packages upgraded.

The 32-bit version of NuTyX, still actively supported.

In the newest release, base NuTyX comes with the Long-Term Support (LTS) kernel 4.19.143 and the latest stable 5.8.7.

The gnu c library, glibc, is now glibc 2.31

The graphical server is xorg-server 1.20.9.

The mesa lib is 20.1.7, gtk3 is 3.24.22, and qt has been updated to 5.15.0.

Python interpreters 3.8.3 and 2.7.18 have been included in this release.

The MATE Desktop Environment comes in 1.24.1, the latest version.

The XFCE Desktop Environment comes in 4.14.1, the latest version.

The KDE Plasma Desktop is now 5.19.5, the Framework is now 5.73.0 and applications are now 20.08.1

Available browsers are: firefox 80.0.1, falkon 3.1.0, epiphany 3.36.4, etc

Many desktop applications have been updated as well like thunderbird 78.2.1, Scribus 1.5.5, libreoffice 7.0.1.2, gimp 2.10.20, etc.

8 news ISOs are available.

for 64-bit:

The first ISO is a base NuTyX "rolling" version with a size of 432 Mbytes.

A 5.3 GByte ISO base NuTyX "fixed" version is available which contains a complete repository of the binaries for the NuTyX 11.6 release. You can install NuTyX 11.6 completely without having to use the internet. To install packages from this ISO, once your base system is installed, configured and booting, it's just a question of mounting the media on the /mnt mounting point.

Suppose your media is found under /dev/sdc1, use the following command to mount it:

sudo mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt
Change this command to reflect your system.

A 840 Mbyte ISO Miyo Linux JWM desktop in "rolling" version. This ISO is the result of the expertise of Miyo, our new ISOs maintainer.

A 810 MByte lxde desktop in "rolling" version.

A 893 MByte lxde desktop in "rolling" version.

A 1.6 GByte KDE desktop in "rolling" version.

A 1.6 GByte MATE desktop in "rolling" version.

for 32-bit:

A 383 Mbytes ISO base NuTyX "rolling" version.

Flatpak available

A lot of effort has been concentrated to make possible the installation of universal flatpak packages. This opens the door to a lot of new packages.

News kernels

The 'kernel-419' package replaces the 'kernel-lts' package.

There are now 4 versions of LTS kernel in addition to the last stable kernel to date:

kernel 4.9
kernel 4.14
kernel 4.19 (replace the kernel-lts)
kernel 5.4

NVIDIA

NVIDIA graphics card drivers and utilities are now available for all 5 kernel versions available.

Virtualbox

The virtualbox drivers are available for the 5 kernels of NuTyX.

Upgrade process

Since this is a minor release, an upgrade is possible and as simple as:
