I stand corrected (and I could have done that myself had I thought a little harder).

I agree it's less than desirable.
A simply hosted website like they did in 1999 would be much nicer.
But LQ isn't that anymore now, is it.
What would be a better alternative to the sort of services cloudflare provides?
Happily, not all big Websites use Cloudflare. Since LQ provides essential help, it could be integrated in FSF or some other organization, or otherwise ask for money to pay LQ servers.

Of course, the Electronic Frontier Foundation has nothing but praise for Cloudflare - but considering it's always really been a corporate lobbying front, pushing the very specific agenda of corporations doing as they please, with minimal government interference (whilst pretending it's all about "net neutrality" or privacy), that's not entirely surprising.

Cloudflare has hosted nazis, islamists, etc and has made billions - which is what it's all about, not net neutrality, nor freedom of speech, nor privacy.

Radical Islamists, you mean! Of course, there is nothing wrong with Islamists per se.

There's nothing wrong with Muslims per se. I think the term Islamist already indicates someone who is more than just a Muslim, someone who wants to impose Islam on the rest of the world. Even if he isn't radical enough to count as an actual terrorist, I still don't like that attitude.

I was referring to islamism as in the ideology where religious doctrine becomes fully part of the state/society.

"nazis, islamists, etc"

In this politically correct age, I should probably clarify somewhat and state that though I have pulled out two well known examples of "radical" ideologies, there are certainly plenty of others - and worse. But Cloudflare were well known and documented for "hosting" (I will continue to call it hosting) some well known "neo nazi" and islamist groups, which were either fronts for terrorist groups or terrorist groups in themselves.

Whether I agree with that or not is completely irrelevant. The fact remains that it did so - but that it has also kicked such sites off it's "platform" when forced to do so by bad publicity - while bleating about "net neutrality", elsewhere.

This makes it similar to faecebook in many respects //edit: and in fact google.
