alsa; recording randomly works

Hello everyone.

I have a Beyond Linux From Scratch system (version 8.1, 64 bit) running on my laptop. Alsa is use for handling audio.

When recording audio from the line in input, it always works. When recording using the built-in microphone, sometimes it works. Sometimes it does not work, outputting a file containing silence. To the best of my knowledge, this is random, and possibly "decided" at boot time, since once it is ascertained to be either working or not working, it remains in that state.

All recording is done through arecord, using configuration settings (.asoundrc) that worked in previous installs of Linux.

This is really weird. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you.
