Disable Dualshock/SIXAXIS Accelerometer in Wired Mode?

I am having a problem using my Playstation 3 Dualshock/SIXAXIS controller as a game pad in Kubuntu Precise. Whenever I try to set button mappings in any program or game besides snes9x, the program immediately reads an accelerometer input and does not allow me to press a button. I know that the accelerometers can be disabled using QtSixA if the controller is connected via Bluetooth, but I don't have bluetooth capability and have the controller connected via the USB cable.

One thing I have noticed is that the driver seems to have been updated recently to accept accelerometer input. I did not have this problem on an older Kubuntu installation, and even the QtSixA documentation makes reference to the USB driver not reading accelerometer input. I have seen references to other people with the same problem as me but I have been unable to find a solution. Is there anything I can do?

As mentioned in qtsixa manual, some utils come with it :
- sixad-raw
Registers a new joystick using a sixaxis hidraw interface, useful to get accelerometers working on USB mode.
