Question grub "error 18"

Hi y'all

I have just returned home from a holiday to find my dual boot RH9/XP system unable to boot.

Instead it gives me this message:

[Minimal BASH-like line editong is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible commands blah blah .....]

Error 18: Selected cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS

grub>

....
....

I tried rebooting with the XP cd....but that wants to reinstall windows...

I would very much like to get it to how it was before with the nice GRUB dual boot facility????

I am sure it is something really small that I am missing... can anyone help???

assuming your bios is moden go into it and change it to allow
LBA logical block addressing
if you have no manual pressing F2 or delete should get you in

You may however have to go to the website for your manufacturer (not the bios maker) to see where to find the setting if you can't see.

Otherwise install linux again with the /boot partition below the cylinder 1024
