Anyone using UDF Pktdrivers?

Is anyone here utilizing the UDF packet drivers for DVD?

I'd like to hear from you if you are.

For those unfamiliar with this, the UDF packet drivers permit Linux to utilize a DVD/CD much like a big writeable floppy/hard disk.

You can mount the DVD/CD like a drive and then just drag and drop files to and off it...

This works especially well with rewriteable media, such as DVD+RW.

The UDFTOOLS provides support for this...

I'm surprised no one is interested in the packet drivers...

I've been using them with great success, but I wanted to talk to a few people about overall xfer speeds.

They are fairly seemless once installed, and give you a portable mechanism for transferring files to Winblows operating systems.

I am VERY interested in using the packet drivers but simply cannot get them to work.

I posted a question in the Software forum and on another site and got no replies at all.

I am using 2.6.10-3mdk and compiled UDF support into the kernel.

cdrwtool works OK. After that, nothing will work. I would be grateful if you would post the sequence of commands I need to enter.

I am currently using pktdrivers w/o any problems under the kernel available on Thac's web site.

To utilize pktdrivers you'll also need udftools.

I'm currently using udftools-1.0.0-0.b3.9.mdk10.1.thac also from that site.

With these installed to get things up and running I did the following...

a) I unmounted any CD rom's (my system only has one combination DVD+-/RW/CD+-RW drive...)

b) I remove any and all entries pertaining to the CD-ROM from /etc/fstab

c) I edited /etc/sysconfig/pktcdvd to point to the correct device, in my case it was

hdc /dev/hdc

e) I then started the pktdrvr service...

service pktcdvd start

f) I also more permanently added the server to begin at startup

chkconfig --add pktcdvd

g) At this point /dev/pktcdvd0 should exist

ls -l /dev/pkt*

h) I then inserted a new DVD+RW disk in the drive and then

dvd+rw-format -f /dev/hdc

i) I then added the UDF filesystem to the disk

mkudffs /dev/pktcdvd0

j) Next add an appropriate fstab entry...

mkdir /mnt/udfdvd

I added...

/dev/pktcdvd0 /mnt/udfdvd udf noauto,sync, rw,exec,users 0 0

to my /etc/fstab file

k) I mounted the drive with

mount /mnt/udfdvd

That's it...

Now df -m shows

/dev/pktcdvd0 4482 1 4482 1% /mnt/udfdvd

Logging back into KDE results in a NEW desktop Icon called "DVD" which shows my new mounted file system.

My only minor problem thus far is that kudzu wants to re-add the CDROM device (/dev/hdc) into FSTAB which conflicts with pktdvd...

After this I have a nice and fairly fast removeable UDF filesystem which also works in XP.
