ways to monitor the dhcpd service

Rhel 6.10, for now

I need to know of a way to monitor the dhcpd service itself, in case it stops. Something that would send me an email notification.

I have nagios core right now, using the check_dhcp plugin, but it doesn't tell me if the service stops, only if there are other issues.

I'd think that something like this would exist. Free, if possible, as it'd be kind of a hard sell the higher ups!

Look at the check_procs plugin

I actually was able to make a check that checked just for the dhcpd service. Seemed easier than trying to modify the check_procs.

You don't "modify" the check_procs you pass the process name you want to check for.

For example:
Code:
check_procs -C 'dhcpd'

I see what you mean. So, in that line, could I modify the check_dhcp to check for dhcp offers, or leases? So, that it looks to see if there are no free leases or if there is an issue with dhcpoffers?

I don't know what other checks check_dhcp offers. In general any Nagios compatible check should respond to --help with details of what's supported.

Thanks, I've done extremely little nagios work, so that helps!

So, still plinking on the nagios plugin. I am wondering if there is some other dhcp monitoring tool I can try?
I can get nagios to work for monitoring the dhcpd service itself, but I'd like something that can monitor if dhcp offers are happening. I can't seem to find the right command for nagios.
So, basically, something that will let me know if dhcp isn't working, but the service itself is working. It's the only thing I need monitored, so it would be great if there is something simple, that can just send an email if there is an error.

Thanks, all!
