RPM packaging: best practices for saving original values

I'm creating an RPM to set up local configuration settings for a site after a machine is built. Many of the settings are just updates to .conf files, but for items that are set via gsettings, what are best practices for storing off the original values for restoring if the package is uninstalled? I'm looking, for example, at the local proxy settings.

I do not think there is common solution for that. an rpm package may have preinstall/postinstall/preremove/postremove scripts which can handle such tasks - if I understand it well -, but you need to implement what you want to save/restore/revert/whatever.
