Finally, I should say that I do not recommend the PIXMA 2550/2555 for the Linux User. It has reliably handled intermittent light use, but the ink cartridges are rather expensive (I find), it is incredibly loud, it is very slow, and it does not interface well with Linux Mint.

You should be able to find the driver on Canon support website.
I have a MG6650 and not had any problems on Linux mint,Centos and Fedora.
Dear all,
Just want to know which printer Ill have to buy - preferably not expensive - and can install easily, not needing to compile packages etc.
thanks,
miramarcos
Dear Dennis2,
checked the driver downloads from Canon and think I ll buy a Pixma TS305, have another question maybe you can help me, when the printer is used with WiFi, do you still need to install the apropriate driver ?
thanks,
miramarcos

Short answer Yes.
If you use a firewall please check that the needed ports are not blocked after you have run the driver software.
I have a MG 6650 printer using wireless, sorry I cannot confirm for scanner software as I never use this function.
One thing to be aware of with network-attached devices like this. Those with no front panel for configuration often come with vendor-supplied Windows (and possibly Mac) software for the purpose of initial configuration on a wifi network. This means you'll need such an OS for this purpose at least. Once the device is on the wireless LAN (with a known IP address) it is generally a trivial task for configure CUPS to use it.
Dear all, have downloaded the software source file cnijfilter2/source-5.50-tar.gz, can somebody inform me how to install that with terminal commands ? many thanks,
miramarcos
Dear rokytnji, in readme : how to build one printerdriver package $rpmbuild-tb cnijfilter-source etc., but what command in terminal do I have to type in ? sudo apt-get didnt work.
thanks for your help,
miramarcos
rpm source build in Ubuntu which uses .deb makes no sense to me. Probably a communication error on my part. Are you sure there is no .deb package already built for this gear?
Edit: If displaying text files and folder contents are beyond the above users skill set. I cannot read minds. On folder contents and file contents. So flying blind. I gotta go.
