Well, I started my Linux journey in 1998/99 so it’s been while. Not a guru but I get by ��

I use this to set up my virtualbox for mac. I have to compile a project in mac so this worked great for me.

This is all done in Slackware64current or slackware6414.2 both my machines are AMD 8350fx. the other Ryzen 3700x machine I have big Sur on.

Hey '98 was my first year of college. I wouldn't even know what Linux was for OVER a decade and a half! My "hunch" is you can"get by" far better than I could IN MY DREAMS! LoL.

THANK YOU! I REALLY appreciate it!!! I "used" to run AMD machines, but now, I like Purism. I first started looking for a new computer about 3 years ago. When I found a company that installed Linux (their own Distro) based of Debian, which I used and LOVED, and then found the computer ONLY used components that had open source drivers, I was SOLD and have never looked back. Heck, even the"default" setup helping me with setting up total drive encryption was nice. I can take it with me anywhere and EVEN IF someone STEALS IT, my data is safe! I've NEVER felt that much of a sense of security.

If the question is still actual (I just registered in hope to fix my CentOS installation and still browsing the forum...) and you want to spend some time with macOS (vs just compile a project - in this case VirtualBox is perfectly fine), consider trying VMWare ESXi (free up to 16TB RAM, 8vCPU/vm machine).
It would require a bit more time to setup (boot partition - I used just a SD card, VMFS storage), but if you have compatible GPU the performance will be closer to native.

It is very easy.

You go on torrent and download the image of OSX86 img file.

You take Linux, boot a live linux like devuan live hybrid/dvd, copy the image to your /dev/sda. Reboot, and you get a real mac.

Toshiba notebooks are very fine and it works well on those.
Even wifi works out of the box. It depends the notebook
