Exclamation Can't switch eth0 into monitor mode

Okay, so I've been having this problem for a few days. I have set up my Bridged Adapter for Eth0 and has connected to my router. However, I use "ifconfig eth0 down" and then "iwconfig eth0 mode monitor" to set the Ethernet to monitor mode, but I get an error message reading

"Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
" SET failed on device eth0 ; Operation not supported

Since this is happening, I can't conduct scans using "Airodump-ng eth0" because it requires monitor mode.

Please keep in mind I AM USING A VIRTUALBOX

I would search the internet for this error message. Thanks to https://askubuntu.com/questions/8413...of-wifi-driver, I know now that the command iw list can be used to confirm whether an interface is able to monitor.

But first of all, your setup is not quite clear to me. eth0 is certainly a strange name for a wireless interface, and you also refer to "Ethernet"; are you sure it's really wireless? Also, while I am not sure if it's relevant, I don't understand your remark about the router.

I'm a bit confused, eth0 is the name given to a WIRED ethernet connection so trying to make it a WiFi monitored port isn't going to work. (If that's what you're trying to do.) Have I misunderstood?

Play Bonny!

You need a USB wireless adapter that can be used in monitor mode.
