Some people might have doubts or questions about the vision Pat embraces with Slackware. Those who do typically move on after their WTF experience. Those who remain typically are thankful about the design.
At work I use Debian (Proxmox), CentOS, and Ubuntu MATE. I am thankful I can work that way rather than use proprietary operating systems.
That said, as somebody eloquently noted, is Slackware
doesn't have a lot of f-ckery. I use the distros at work, but I also have to add a lot of sweat equity to remove most of the f-ckery.
With Slackware I get a no frills base operating system. Yes, I add a lot of sweat equity to massage my systems. Yet I get to decide what kind of f-ckery I want and not what some upstream ivory-towered pinheads decide.
I am a realist. I accept that most computer users need the additional f-ckery. I'm happy I have a choice.
