CentOS 7 VirtualBox Guest Screen Resolution

VirtualBox 5.1.38. Slackware 14.2 64-bit host. Fully updated CentOS 7 guest.

Since the release of the 3.10.0-862* kernels I am unable to use a screen resolution greater than the defaults. The 5.1.38 GA build fine on the 3.10.0-693* kernels.

The VirtualBox GA installer runs fine without apparent errors, but the vboxvideo kernel module always fails to compile. The other modules build fine.

The only clue is in the install log:

Code:
/tmp/vbox.0/vbox_fb.c:86:31: error: ‘struct drm_framebuffer’ has no member named ‘bits_per_pixel’
I have surfed the web looking for ideas.

Any ideas?

Thanks again.

Edit: I found some VirtualBox tickets addressing the issue and some VirtualBox forum discussions that seem to imply the problem is resolved.

I would centre attention on the vboxvideo module. Often you have to build a kernel (3.10.0-862in this case) and then compile the modules without running ' make clean'.

I already know the vboxvideo module won't compile. I want to know why so I can resolve the problem.

I think I am telling you why.
Vboxvideo module and others require a complete compiled source to compile, and this is Spectre under the directory pointed to by the symlinks in /lib/modules.

The problem is upstream with 5.1.x. I installed 5.2.14. The CentOS 7 VM builds the GA fine.
