I actually decided to bite the bullet and try Ubuntu and just use a flash drive. New issue...the tablet won't boot from usb. I see LICK Windows and UEFI but no option for USB. Either I'm more lost than I thought or there's a deeper issue

I tried an active USB with puppy but to no avail. Now I'm completely lost. No option in BIOS for a USB boot.

Try looking under HDD. ON some systems, you will see the usb listed under hard drive, usually by the name of the usb: Lexar, Toshiba, etc.

One could chain load grub or grug4dos to then boot to an iso I'd think.

Generally I too would look under a hard drive order choice but is this uefi system?

Since you say tablet. Is this one of those Atom processor tablets with a goofy 32 and 64 bit deal?

Are able to reboot to the bios and view hard drive choices? You'd have to have the usb installed prior to reboot maybe.

Also uefi can present hardware. That part is a known fact. What is not known is if any vendors have decided to present a different set of hardware than what might be expected.

I guess secure boot could be in this issue too.
