utter noob mouse wont work


hi, so you see I am completely new to linux and my mouse won't work after I just got through an installation of debian...it is a ps2 wheel mouse, and I thought that I had that specified correctly during the installation...any feedback appreciated...

If you are at the command line, you can type xorgconfig and set it up there. All you need to know is the horizonal and vertical refresh rates of your monitor, the make and model of your graphics card and the type of mouse you have.

thanks, um...any tips on how to get to the command line and whatnot using just the keyboard?

When you are at the GUI login screen, pres crtl + alt + F1 key. That will bring you to a command line.

thanks, um...that get's me to a login prompt...so I login using my login name/password...then I try that command (xorgconfig) and nothing happens...also, I tried it with running terminal in gnome...same deal..

You have to be logged in as root.
