Angry MP3 player for Fedora Core 2

Can anyone explain how I can setup an MP3 player with Fedora 2? I've tried downloading XMMS 1.2.10(src.rpm), but can't seem to install it, a window is displayed reporting that there is no action associated with this file.
Please help!

i'm still downloading fc2

in fc1, xmms is bundled in...but without mp3 support

you can try downloading http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/2/i386/R...n.2.2.i386.rpm

that should make your xmms to play mp3. i haven tested it though. good luck!

don't get source rpm (srpm) but a normal rpm, like -i386.rpm or -i686.rpm or anything that doesn't have the src or srpm in it's name. then open up a terminal and start something like

rpm -i xmms-pkg-name.rpm

where xmms-pkg-name.rpm is the name of the rpm file you d/loaded. if that won't work, check

man rpm

to see the correct option for install...upgrade is, I guess, u or U and install should be either i or I (small or big). when you get it installed, try to play some mp3-files..if you can't (no plugin installed or something), you lack the mp3-plugin for xmms. so surf to xmms.org and grab it from their downloads section, should be found there, and install it the same way you did xmms too...that should be it.

Talking Cheers

Thanks, downloaded xmms-1.2.10-1.i386.rpm, did as you said, and then associated mp3s with xmms. Works fine!

I advise you to download these packages:

xmms-1.2.10-1.1.fr.i386.rpm
and if you want other format support also:
xmms-aac
xmms-flac
xmms-musepack

for dependancy toy need also
flac
faac2

Try yourself is not difficult!!!!

mp3 fedora core 1 definitive solution

Don't use redhat kde packages but download and install:
arts-1.2.2-0.1asp.i386.rpm
kdemultimedia-3.2.2-0.1asp.i386.rpm

You will have full mp3 ogg flac support in kde programs like noatun, kaboodle...
P.S. that packages are for kde 3.2.2 version that i have downloaded and installed simply
is better than kde version that came with fedora core1!!!!
