Hi all,
I am pleased to announce the immediate availability of my Crystal Desktop Distribution, based on the ROCK development tree revision 6406 with modifications.
The distribution is optimized for Athlon XP CPUs, with otherwise default build settings (optimized for size, GCC 3.4.4 as default compiler, Glibc 2.3.5, Linux 2.6.12.3, X.Org 6.8.2, Bash 2.95 as default bash, ...). Read the
ISO description for details on the
SubMaster patches used and the packages included in addition to the usual Crystal packages.
The bootable and installable ISO CD image can be downloaded at:
http://gems.rocklinux.org/stf/crysta...rystal-expert/
All packages built for this distribution (installable with
mine and
rocket included on the CD) can be found here:
http://gems.rocklinux.org/stf/crysta...l-expert-pkgs/
Not all packages are included in the ISO to keep it small (< 650 MB). Check
ROCK-Crystal-Rev6406_index.txt to see which packages the ISO contains.
To install from the ISO image, download it, burn it on a CD or DVD, boot the CD/DVD and follow on-screen instructions.
To install single packages with
mine, type:
Code:
mine -i <URL-to-gemfile>
E.g.:
Code:
mine -i 'http://gems.rocklinux.org/stf/crystal-distro-TRUNK-x86-athlon-xp-32-crystal-expert-pkgs//aalib-1.4rc5-0.gem'
To install single packages using
rocket, the ROCK network installer, make the gem pool known to
rocket by adding the following line to
/etc/rocket.conf:
Then update the rocket cache:
Now you can install single packages e.g. with:
Code:
rocket install aalib
If you have any questions regarding this ROCK distribution, feel free to ask them here, in the
ROCK Documentation Wiki or on the
ROCK User mailing list.
Technical discussion of ROCK bugs and features should go to the
ROCK Devel mailing list.
General feedback is also very welcome. Have fun!
